We are seeking a Beam Instrumentation Physicist to support the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of beam instrumentation computer systems, electronic control and monitoring systems, RF interface components, and laser control subsystems for the Spallation Neutron Source (SNS). This position resides in the Beam Instrumentation Group in the Accelerator Science and Technology Section, Research Accelerator Division, Neutron Sciences Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

Supports operation and holds intellectual ownership of the hardware, firmware, and software for SNS beam instrumentation systems, including the Differential Beam Current Monitors (DBCMs), Electron Scanner, and Target Imaging System; develops and implements upgrades and new systems as needs arise.

Develops lines of inquiry and beam study plans to improve SNS accelerator beam instrumentation performance andparticipatesin shifts to pursue them.

Participates in scientific conferences and workshops and publishes results in SNS technical notes, proceedings, and journals.

Contributes to group and sectiongoal-setting, resource planning, and policy development, andassiststhe group leader in coordinating graduate student work.

Ensures compliance with ESH&Q program requirements, including ISMS.

Provides operational support for accelerator systems; typical office hours, with occasional off-hours and weekend supportrequiredfor 24/7 SNS operations.

Basic Qualifications:

A PhD degree in accelerator science, or a related discipline(an MSdegree in physics or a related disciplinewill be considered with at least 3 years of relevant experience).

Two or more years of relevant technical experience in design, research and development, construction, commissioning, operation, maintenance, and improvement of accelerator systems after degree.

Extensive knowledgeof beam instrumentation and/or accelerator physics, or similar instrumentation.

Working knowledge of electronics hardware.

Preferred Qualifications:

A solid understanding of physics theory, particularly electrodynamics.

Experience working with an accelerator, such as in a control room, conducting accelerator-based experiments, or performing accelerator simulations.

Experience programming in real-time operating systems.

Experience with LabVIEW programming.

Experience with FPGA programming.

Experience with analog electronics development.

Responsibilities

The Hearing Screen Technician (HST) performs hearing screens and provides education to parents on the relevance of hearing screens and the importance of early intervention.

  • Comply with all company and facility policies and procedures including, but not limited to, appropriate PPE, required vaccinations and other safety/security protocols, Company and Hospital Orientations and annual compliance modules; Raise any questions or concerns from hospital staff and/or leadership as appropriate to HS Manager.
  • Evaluate each patient for “screen readiness” prior to performing a screen; the technician will only screen patients that are in the appropriate state to achieve a reliable result (fed, quiet, not moving/agitated, calm)
  • Collect all necessary data/demographics for each baby. Perform the hearing screen and all screen-related services on all eligible babies during each shift. Ensure documentation protocol is followed for every screen.
  • Treat each screened baby (and his/her family) with the care and consideration required at this important development milestone.
  • Upload all screen results/billing/state reporting by the end of each shift and ensure the stats for each screen are complete and reconciled, unless otherwise instructed by Site Supervisor.
  • Perform all screens in an efficient manner and follow the appropriate process to minimize time in the patient room, without sacrificing quality or patient education / satisfaction.
  • Ensure all relevant information is provided to the party responsible for each screened baby, and the parent/guardian receives appropriate education about the necessity of the screen, and what to do with the results.
  • Notify Site Supervisor of all missed and final refer babies.
  • Schedule Outpatient appointment for refer babies, where appropriate. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience Industry: Entry Level Healthcare

Minimum Qualification/Education Level:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Current CPR Certification or must obtain upon offer.

Organizational Unit Overview

It is the mission of the Department of Pediatrics, East Carolina University, Brody School of Medicine, to provide exemplary medical education/training of physicians in pediatric medicine at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, it is the mission of the department to provide model comprehensive primary and consultative subspecialty care to children of eastern North Carolina, to advance scientific knowledge through basic and clinical research, and to provide continuing medical education opportunities for physicians in the region.

Job Duties

  • The Division of Pediatric Cardiology at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina is recruiting a Board Eligible/Board Certified (BE/BC) pediatric cardiologist with expertise in inpatient and outpatient pediatric cardiac care. The pediatric cardiologist will be responsible for outpatient clinics, outreach clinics, and inpatient management and consultations. The pediatric cardiologist should be proficient in fetal echocardiography and transthoracic echocardiography of the pediatric and adult congenital patient. The physician will join a 5-physician division providing care to a population of 1.4 million people in 29 counties in eastern North Carolina. The division provides limited electrophysiologic, interventional catheterization, and limited surgical support for the pediatric and adult congenital cardiac patient. Outpatient pediatric/adult congenital cardiac services are provided at East Carolina Heart Institute at East Carolina University as well as at 7 outreach clinic sites. Inpatient pediatric/adult congenital cardiac services are provided at the 142-bed Children's Hospital of Eastern North Carolina as well as at the 120-bed East Carolina Heart Institute at East Carolina Health Medical Center.

  • Fixed Term (12-month) or Tenure Track position available at the title/rank of Clinical Assistant Professor, Assistant Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, Associate Professor, Clinical Professor, or Professor. Number of years practicing and accomplishments varies for each title/rank.
  • Employment in this position provides eligibility to participate in the UNC Optional Retirement Program (ORP) which offers matching employer contributions and employee control of investment choices, along with eligibility to participate in various Voluntary Supplemental Retirement Plans (401k, 403b, 457). This position is not eligible to participate in the NC Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System (TSERS). Minimum Education/Experience

MD or DO degree from an appropriately accredited institution, or completed foreign medical education accepted and recognized for ECFMG Certification. Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of North Carolina. Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatric Cardiology. Minimum requirements are the same for both Clinical and Tenure Track.

License or Certification Required by Statute or Regulation

Eligibility for an unrestricted medical license in the State of North Carolina. Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatric Cardiology.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education

Interest or expertise in transesophageal echocardiography or cardiac magnetic resonance imaging is desirable but not required.
