  • Oversee the psychiatric components of each patient’s interdisciplinary treatment plan.
  • Supervise, support, and appropriately staff patient caseloads managed by psychiatric nurse practitioners.
  • Participate in shared phone-based on-call coverage with Nexus Physician Group for psychiatric emergencies involving patients within Nexus Health Systems.
  • Provide timely clinical orders, progress notes, attestations, and other required documentation.
  • Lead regularly scheduled treatment conferences for patients within the program.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, therapists, behavioral health professionals, case managers, rehabilitation specialists, and other clinical team members.
  • Partner with the Neurodevelopmental Program Director to maintain program standards and promote effective patient care.
  • Review prospective patients and provide clinical recommendations regarding admission appropriateness.
  • Participate actively in discharge planning and transitions to the next level of care.
  • Meet regularly with guardians, referral sources, and payers to support treatment coordination and positive patient outcomes.
  • Provide formal and informal education to staff regarding psychiatric conditions, behavioral health needs, and effective clinical strategies.
  • Participate in program-development meetings and recommend improvements supporting treatment quality and fidelity.
  • Meet weekly with hospital leadership to review clinical operations and future program development.
  • Complete required billing documentation and physician time records accurately and on time.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from an accredited medical school.
  • Completion of an accredited psychiatry residency and child and adolescent psychiatry fellowship.

Licensure and Certification

  • Current and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas.
  • Board certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Current CPR certification when applicable, or ability to obtain certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to maintain all required licenses and certifications in good standing throughout employment.

Experience

  • At least two years of direct clinical experience working with children and adolescents is preferred.
  • Experience treating adolescents with complex psychiatric, behavioral, developmental, or neurodevelopmental conditions is strongly preferred.
  • Previous clinical leadership or advanced practice provider supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Experience working within an interdisciplinary treatment environment is highly valued.

You will be responsible for consulting on the immediate and ongoing medical management of all admitted pediatric and adolescent psychiatric inpatients. This role is crucial for integrating physical health assessment and management into the overall psychiatric treatment plan, enhancing patient safety, and ensuring regulatory compliance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete comprehensive Histories & Physical examinations for all new admissions within 24 hours.
  • Actively co-manage new and existing medical concerns (e.g., metabolic changes, side effects, acute/chronic conditions) with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Place orders for diagnostic tests and lab work related to general medical health and review results in a timely manner.
  • Initiate, coordinate, and manage communication with internal and external pediatric medical specialists (e.g., Endocrinology, Neurology, Orthopedics).

Schedule:

  • 7days on, 7 days off 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Overnight coverage is provided during service weeks via home call (telephone consultation). Occasional in-person evaluation of patients may be required overnight in emergent situations.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program with an active MA PA license
  • Experience in pediatric hospitalist medicine
  • Experience working with behaviorally and neurodevelopmentally complex children and adolescents
  • Physician Assistant must live and remain within a 60 minute radius of the work site, to be available to commute for potential emergent situations when on service.

Compensation for this specialty generally ranges from $271,500 - $401,500.
