Description

Position purpose

Provide quality and versatile anesthesia care under the direct supervision of a physician.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all aspects of airway management
  • Facilitate emergence and recovery from anesthesia by evaluating patient response, and selecting, ordering, and administering medications and fluids to maintain patient stability during transfer
  • Initiate and administer post‑anesthesia pharmacological or fluid support of the cardiovascular system
  • Initiate and administer respiratory support to ensure adequate ventilation and oxygenation during the post‑anesthesia period
  • Provide post‑anesthesia follow‑up evaluation and care
  • Discharge patient from the post‑anesthesia care unit
  • Closely support and monitor life functions, taking corrective action when adverse responses occur
  • Terminate anesthesia in a timely fashion, ensuring patient safety during post‑anesthetic recovery
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education: Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required. Valid CRNA certification required.

Experience: A minimum of two years or progressive work experience in a multispecialty physician group model preferred.

Performance Requirements

  • Ability to transport patients in stretchers to various rooms/locations
  • Ability to perform clinically as a nurse anesthetist in the facility setting on a regular basis
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing to collaborate with various clinical staff
  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patients served
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control techniques
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, assessing data reflective of patient requirements relative to population‑specific and age‑specific needs

Duties Summary

Positions may involve assignment to a specific geographic area and/or to specialized community public health clinics.

Alternate Situation positions may be program specialists in a particular clinical service or subject matter area of nursing. As such they may plan, organize and coordinate community and/or institution educational and consultive services relative to the specialized nursing techniques, methods and treatment services characteristic of a particular medical program. This responsibility involves assisting nurses and program administrators in the development and improvement of nursing programs, policies and procedures; planning and conducting education programs within a specific clinical service area; and supervising subordinate nursing and/or clerical personnel.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

GENERAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experience is credited based on a 40-hour workweek.

License Requirement: License to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Hawaii.

Specialized Experience Requirement

(Level II = 0 years, Level III = 6 months, Level IV = 1 year 6 months, Level V = 2 years and 6 months; Level VI = 3 years 6 months)

Professional work experience as a registered nurse. For public health nursing positions, applicants must have had public health nursing experience in the appropriate quantities shown in the table above.

For all positions, applicants for Registered Nurse IV and V must have had one year of satisfactory work experience comparable to the next lower level in the State service. For example, applicants for Registered Nurse V in the hospital, institutional or clinic setting must have had one year of experience comparable to Registered Nurse IV as a supervisor of nurses responsible for all patient care, management activities within an assigned ward, floor or clinical area. Applicants for Registered Nurse V in the public health nursing setting must have had one year of experience independently responsible for public health nursing treatment, care and educational services within an assigned geographic area.

For both public health and hospital, institutional or clinic nursing positions in the class Registered Nurse VI, all applicants must have had one year of experience comparable to the class Registered Nurse V or two years of experience comparable to the class Registered Nurse IV in the State service.

  • Administrative Aptitude: Applicants for Registered Nurse VI in both public health nursing and hospital, institutional or clinic nursing must have demonstrated administrative aptitude. Administrative aptitude may be demonstrated in experience which shows strong affirmative evidence of the necessary administrative aptitudes and abilities. Such evidence may be in the form of success in regular or special assignments or projects which involved administrative problems (e.g., planning, organizing, promoting, evaluating, controlling and directing programs, including policy and budgetary considerations; and/or providing staff advice and assistance in such matters); interest in administration demonstrated by the performance of work assignments in a manner which clearly indicates awareness of administrative problems and the ability to solve them; completion of educational or training courses in the areas of administration accompanied by the application of the principles, which were learned, to work assignments; management's observation and favorable evaluation of the applicant's leadership and administrative capabilities; success in trial assignments to managerial and/or administrative tasks.

Substitution Allowed Possession of a master's degree and/or a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from an accredited college or university school of nursing may be substituted for one year of experience.

Selective Certification: Specialized knowledge, skills and abilities may be required to perform the duties of some positions. For such positions, Selective Certification Requirements may be established, and certification may be restricted to eligibles who possess the pertinent experience and/or training required to perform the duties of the position. Agencies requesting selective certification must show the connection between the kind of training and/or experience on which they wish to base selective certification and the duties of the position to be filled.

  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Monitors clinic care & service delivery to ensure conformance with established quality assurance and operational policies, procedures and standards.

  • Coordinates with the interdisciplinary team to develop a comprehensive care plan for each participant incorporating immediate and continuing care needs, including the participant and family perspective.
  • Actively takes part in implementing a summary on each client to help the state determine Nursing Home Level of Care.

Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse currently licensed in the Commonwealth of MA.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience with the geriatric population.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office tools.
  • Ability to travel locally on a frequent basis in a personal vehicle.
  • Ability to be able to quickly recognize situations/problems before they become acute, and to be able to implement effective solutions and understand consequences.
