Chief Investment Officer
Empower Media
chicago, il
Compensation: 250.000 + - 250.000 +

Empower Ocean Media Group is the second-largest, full funnel independent media agency group in the U.S., managing $1.5 billion in combined media billings.

Empower Ocean merges two of the nation’s leading independent media agencies, amplifying their strengths to deliver unmatched media buying power, cutting-edge technology, and top-tier talent.

Built on four decades of innovation, Empower Media is a woman-owned media, creative, and entertainment agency, unlocking fearless growth through bold thinking and operational excellence. Ocean Media brings 30 years of performance-driven results through proprietary technology.

With offices in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago and Palm Beach, Empower Ocean Media Group serves a prestigious client roster including PetSmart, Sprouts Farmers Market, Tempur-Sealy, Whataburger, BetMGM, CarGurus, Rakuten, Realtor.com, and Mint Mobile.

Role Overview

The Chief Investment Officer is a hands-on, full-funnel leader responsible for how over $1.5B in media investment is deployed, optimized, and held accountable to business outcomes.

This is not a traditional oversight role. The CIO operates at the intersection of strategy, execution, and performance — working directly with clients, internal teams, and partners to drive measurable growth.

You will move seamlessly between executive leadership and in-market execution: shaping investment strategy, guiding performance decisions, and ensuring every dollar is working as hard as possible.

Success in this role means building an integrated investment system where performance and brand media operate as one, and where outcomes, not activity, define success.

Core Mandate

  • Own and lead all media investment across the Empower-Ocean platform
  • Drive full-funnel performance across all channels and client portfolios
  • Establish a high-performance culture grounded in accountability and outcomes
  • Serve as a senior client-facing growth leader
  • Ensure every investment decision is data-driven, financially sound, and outcome-focused

Key Responsibilities

Full-Funnel Investment Leadership

  • Own investment strategy and execution across:
  • Search, Social, Retail Media
  • Programmatic & CTV
  • Unify performance and brand investment into one cohesive system
  • Translate data signals into real-time investment decisions

Operational & Organizational Leadership

  • Lead investment and media operations at scale
  • Partner closely with Strategy, Planning, Analytics, and Finance leadership
  • Remove friction across teams to improve speed, alignment, and execution
  • Build scalable systems, workflows, and operating models to support growth

Client Leadership & Market Presence

  • Serve as a senior, trusted advisor to key clients
  • Lead high-impact conversations around growth, media effectiveness, and investment allocation
  • Step in directly to guide performance, troubleshoot challenges, and unlock opportunities
  • Maintain a strong in-market presence and build trusted relationships with clients and partners

Performance, Measurement & Financial Rigor

  • Own the connection between media investment and business outcomes
  • Define and enforce KPIs tied to ROAS, customer acquisition, revenue growth, and efficiency
  • Establish a consistent performance cadence (weekly, monthly, quarterly)
  • Bring financial discipline to investment decisions, optimizing marginal return and capital allocation
  • Build and lead a modern, performance-driven investment organization
  • Develop next-generation leaders with full-funnel expertise
  • Set the tone for accountability, speed, and ownership
  • Create an environment focused on outcomes over activity
  • Lead strategic relationships with key platforms and partners (Google, Meta, Amazon, CTV, publishers)
  • Negotiate for value, transparency, and performance
  • Drive innovation in measurement, attribution, and optimization

Executive Partnership

  • Act as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive team
  • Provide clear visibility into performance, risks, and growth opportunities
  • Help shape the future of Empower-Ocean’s investment platform

Key Characteristics

The ideal CIO is:

  • A builder and operator, not a passive overseer
  • Deeply experienced across full-funnel media investment
  • Hands-on and comfortable working directly with teams and clients
  • Performance-driven, with a strong understanding of what drives growth
  • Highly analytical with strong financial acumen
  • Decisive, accountable, and action-oriented
  • Energized by fast-moving, high-growth environments

Qualifications

  • 20+ years in media, with significant leadership in investment and operations
  • Experience as a CIO or senior investment leader (Head of Investment, Media, or Performance)
  • Proven success managing large-scale, full-funnel media portfolios
  • Deep expertise across performance media, programmatic/CTV, and traditional channels
  • Strong understanding of platform ecosystems (Google, Meta, Amazon, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to scale teams and drive measurable business outcomes
  • Strong financial, operational, and strategic acumen

Why This Role Matters

Empower-Ocean is building a new kind of media investment platform- one that fully integrates performance and brand media into a single, accountable system.

The Chief Investment Officer sits at the center of that vision.

This is an opportunity to lead at scale, shape how $1.5B+ in media investment is deployed, and help build a platform designed for the next era of growth.

Digital PR & Outreach Specialist - Full-time - Remote
Comrade Digital Marketing Agency
chicago, il
Compensation: 250.000 + - 250.000 +

About Comrade Digital Marketing

We are a mid‑size marketing company established in 2008 and headquartered in Chicago. We provide search marketing services, namely SEO, GEO, PPC, web design and development. And we do it well!

This position is open to all LATAM candidates

THE OPPORTUNITY

Comrade Digital Marketing Agency partners with law firms, home‑service companies, and technology brands to build their online authority.

We’re looking for a sharp, self‑directed Digital PR & Outreach Specialist who knows how to turn a well‑crafted pitch into a high‑value placement on a site editors actually respect. This isn’t mass email outreach. You’ll research the right publications, tailor every angle to the journalist’s beat, and land contextual backlinks and brand mentions that move the needle for our clients. If you’ve built real relationships with editors and can point to bylines on authoritative outlets, we want to hear from you.

What You’ll Do

Research & targeting

  • Scout and vet publications, podcasts, and niche blogs that align with each client’s vertical — evaluating traffic volume, domain strength, editorial quality, and audience fit.
  • Assemble focused contact lists using prospecting platforms (MuckRack, Hunter.io, Prowley, OnePitch, or equivalents) and maintain an organized, up‑to‑date media database.
  • Segment contacts by outlet type — news desks, trade publications, industry influencers, podcasters — so every pitch reaches the right inbox.

Pitching & relationship building

  • Develop unique story angles rooted in client data, case studies, or expert commentary — not generic templates.
  • Write tailored outreach emails that speak to each journalist’s coverage area and publication voice.
  • Run multi‑touch follow‑up sequences that stay helpful without crossing into spam territory.
  • Negotiate placement formats: contributed articles, expert quotes, case‑study features, resource‑page inclusions, and more.

Placements & performance

  • Land in‑content, do‑follow backlinks on sites that meet our quality bar (details below) — contextual relevance is non‑negotiable.
  • Secure branded mentions with proper attribution for clients and the agency.
  • Track outreach volume, reply rates, and placement wins; report results clearly so the team can learn and iterate.

OUR QUALITY BAR FOR PLACEMENTS

Every link you bring in must clear these thresholds:

  • Monthly traffic: 5,000+ verified visits (SimilarWeb or equivalent).
  • Domain authority: DR 50+ for mainstream outlets; DR 40+ is acceptable for tightly focused, editorially sound niche sites.
  • Spam score: no higher than 10–15% (Moz or comparable metric).
  • Editorial standards: active readership, a consistent publishing cadence, and genuine editorial oversight.
  • Geography: US‑focused or global English‑language outlets with meaningful US readership.

Where We Want To Show Up

Think Search Engine Journal, Moz, HubSpot, Content Marketing Institute, and MarTech for the marketing/SEO vertical. Forbes, Entrepreneur, Inc., and Fast Company for broader business coverage. Plus authoritative corporate blogs (Google Marketing Platform, Ahrefs, SEMrush, Salesforce) and niche partner platforms. If a publication has real editorial weight and the right audience, it’s in scope.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR (2+ years of experience)

Must‑haves

  • At least two years of hands‑on experience in digital PR, journalist outreach, or SEO‑driven link acquisition.
  • A portfolio of placements on high‑authority sites (DR 50+) that you personally pitched and closed.
  • Working fluency with the standard toolkit: Ahrefs, SEMrush, BuzzStream or Pitchbox, Hunter.io, MuckRack, or comparable platforms.
  • A solid grasp of what separates a valuable backlink from a worthless one — anchor text strategy, link relevance, and quality signals.
  • Excellent written English and the ability to write pitches that feel personal, not automated.
  • Comfort working with US‑centric publications and time zones, even if you’re based elsewhere.
  • A self‑starter mindset — you manage your own pipeline, hit deadlines, and flag issues before they become problems.

Bonus points

  • Prior work in the legal, home‑services, or digital marketing/SaaS verticals.
  • Established relationships with editors or journalists in our target niches.
  • A background that blends content marketing with traditional public relations.
  • Familiarity with expert‑sourcing channels like HARO, Qwoted, or Featured.

How To Apply

Send us three things:

  • Your resume or a portfolio that highlights relevant outreach and PR wins.
  • Two to three examples of placements you’ve secured — include the publication name, its domain rating, and the type of coverage.
  • A short overview of how you approach an outreach campaign from start to finish, including the tools you rely on.

Great pitches open doors. Show us yours.
