Pathology Technicians work collaboratively with Pathology Residents, Pathologists' Assistants, Histotechnicians, and Pathologists. The Histology laboratory is a fast-paced area that creates microscopic slides for diagnosis from surgical and autopsy tissue samples. We are looking for enthusiastic team members with an interest or background in anatomy and biology.

The Pathology Technician provides technical support for Surgical Pathology, Histology, Autopsy, and Hazardous Materials Management.

Candidates for this position must have obtained their HS Diploma or GED, with some laboratory experience required. An associate's degree in science or a licensed school of mortuary is preferred.

This is a full-time, 40-hour per week, day-shift position working Monday through Friday from 6:00 am - 2:30 pm.

DHMC and Clinics are offering a $2500 sign-on/retention bonus for this position. *External applicants only and certain conditions apply.

Responsibilities

  • Correctly identifies specimens and labels processing materials.
  • Provides gross bench with materials and supplies required for specimen preparation.
  • Assists with frozen section preparation as requested by bench personnel.
  • Disposes of surgical specimens per established departmental policy.
  • Prepares and autoclaves instruments and materials needed for specimen processing activities in both Surgical Pathology and Microbiology.
  • Correctly identifies specimens and maintains identification throughout processing.
  • Prepares specimens for microscopic evaluation per established protocols.
  • Follows up on abnormal cytology results per established protocol.
  • Maintains tissue processors, stainers, and coverslippers. Prepares stock solutions and Vitek sterile saline.
  • Assists Microbiology Staff Technologists in the management of incoming media.
  • Ensures the proper identification of the autopsy subject and that all necessary paperwork is completed before the postmortem examination is performed. Prepares patients for prosection.
  • Performs gross dissections (ex. bowel, brain) with little supervision.
  • Apportions tissue specimens to medical investigators as requested for diagnostic and teaching purposes, ensuring that all specimens are accurately and appropriately labeled.
  • Properly closes patients and prepares them for discharge. Ensures expedient processing of patients.
  • Cleans/sterilizes instruments and cleans the autopsy suite after each use.
  • Leaves area prepared for next case. Sets up instrument trays.
  • Organizes and prepares organs for gross conference. Cleans the autopsy suite after the conference. Disposes of autopsy specimens following established departmental policy.
  • Removes hazardous bulk waste materials from the laboratory each working day. Pours into appropriate bulk drums in the hazardous waste shed following established departmental policies. Ensures that all material is properly labeled and in appropriate containers prior to removal to the storage shed.
  • Maintains inventory of flammable materials and formalin. Distributes materials to areas within Anatomic Pathology upon request.
  • Maintains recycling activities for solvents. Ensures that all material is properly labeled and stored. Maintains appropriate logs and recycling equipment. Reports all problems to the Senior Pathology Technician immediately.
  • Assists with the collection and storage of hazardous waste from the Clinical Laboratory. Works closely with Facilities Management and the Assistant Supervisor to ensure compliance with the requirements of various regulatory agencies. Inspects waste storage shed each workday according to the checklist located in the shed. Check off all required items and initial as indicated. Ensures that drums are grounded.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate with 2 years of applicable laboratory experience required.
  • Associate's degree in science or licensed school of mortuary science preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY

You will—

  • Participate/Lead Functional Entity Certification/Certification Reviews.
  • Coordinate in developing tools for NERC and other Regional Entity staff.

Benefits and Compensation

The base salary range for this full-time position is $97,600–$120,900 + discretionary pay + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. YOUR HOURS AS A MEDICATION AIDE

Opportunities include Part-Time or Full-Time PM and Full-Time NOC. Night and weekend shifts receive a $1.00/hour differential each.


WHAT WE NEED FROM A MEDICATION AIDE

  • Current Caregiver Certification
  • Completion of the designated training program (as prescribed by the Wellness Director or designated LPN/supervisor)
  • Ability to effectively communicate with residents, families, supervisors, and employees
  • Physical capability: pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, twisting, upward reaching; prolonged standing/walking
  • Ability to assist in transferring residents; lifting people/objects as required
  • Willingness to work with the elderly

YOUR DAY AS A MEDICATION AIDE

In this role, you arrive ready to support healing: you greet residents, review physician orders with the Licensed Nurse, and administer medications-from oral and liquid to inhalers, eye/ear drops, and topicals-excluding subcutaneous injections (performed by an outside agency of the resident's choice or by a licensed nurse). You change simple dressings for non-infected chronic or postoperative conditions, provide skin care and assist with bathing, and carefully document services along with any significant changes in condition. You champion dignity, privacy, and resident rights, rigorously protect confidentiality, and meet Western States Senior Communities standards for appearance, sanitation, hygiene, and health. Throughout your shift, you collaborate professionally with residents, families, visitors, and associates, complete reasonable tasks delegated by the Licensed Nurse, and report to the Wellness Director, Assisted Living Coordinator, and Memory Care Coordinator-always encouraging independence and comfort.

Job Summary
  • These positions participate in developing and coordinating Marie's House of Hope, Inc. programs working primarily with residents. This position is responsible for training and teaching independent living skills. Assists in providing self-care training and treatments to Marie's House of Hope, Inc residents.
 
General Accountabilities
  • Ensure the health, safety, comfort, and welfare of each individual in their care.
  • Assist individuals with their daily tasks as necessary.
  • Assist in bathing, toileting, dressing, and other personal care.
  • Assist in proper lifting and transferring of individuals as needed.
  • Provide training and assistance to individuals in daily living skills.
  • Pass medications.
  • Document in appropriate books.
  • Transport individuals as necessary.
  • Cleaning or assisting individuals in cleaning.
  • Prepare well-balanced meals within the guidelines of the individual's requirements or special diets.
  • Ensure laundry is clean, and assist or wash as required with each individual.
  • Take individuals into the community.
  • Assist with money management. Account for individual cash that is under Provide Care, Inc's control.
  • Implement individual program plans.
  • Ensure the dignity and respect of each individual are maintained.
  • Attend all staff meetings and training sessions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all individual records.
  • Must-Have own transportation
