Head of Insurance & Business Risk
Anthropic
new york, ny
Compensation: 125.000 - 150.000

About Anthropic

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

Head of Insurance & Business Risk

Anthropic is looking for a Head of Insurance & Business Risk to build this pivotal function from the ground up. You'll own Anthropic's corporate insurance program end-to-end — assessing our risk landscape, designing and placing coverage, and developing the broader risk mitigation strategies that protect the company as we grow. This role presents the opportunity to quickly scale a risk management program while shaping how the insurance industry understands emerging AI risks.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full corporate insurance program across all lines — D&O, cyber, tech E&O, and Property & Casualty — including renewals, claims, and broker relationships
  • Centralize insurance ownership from stakeholders across Legal, Facilities, Security, Product, Policy, and Research into a single coherent program
  • Meet regularly with business leaders to surface emerging risks, and design coverage or alternative risk-transfer strategies to address them
  • Build relationships with carriers, underwriters, and regulators to help shape how the insurance market approaches AI-specific risk
  • Think about risk transfer holistically — deciding when to insure, self‑insure, use captives, transfer contractually, or mitigate operationally
  • Embed Claude throughout the insurance and risk workflow, from exposure modeling to renewal preparation

You may be a good fit if you

  • Have owned the full corporate insurance program at a company including the full renewal cycle, claims, broker management, and board reporting
  • Have deep technical insurance depth: you can speak credibly to coverage structure, exclusions, and pricing dynamics across major lines without deferring to a broker
  • Have built or significantly rebuilt a risk function, rather than only inheriting and maintaining one
  • Think about risk transfer holistically and can articulate when not to buy a policy
  • Are comfortable operating at the pace of a fast‑growing company and being seen as additive to the business, not a blocker
  • Have a point of view on how to structure coverage for risks the market hasn't fully priced yet

Strong candidates may also have

  • Experience with data center, hyperscaler, or neocloud‑specific property and business interruption risk
  • Captive formation or captive management experience
  • A background on the broker side that they've since brought in‑house at a fast‑growing company
  • Experience engaging directly with regulators or carriers on novel risk categories

Compensation

The annual compensation range for this role is listed below.

For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ('OTE') range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.

$300,000 - $370,000 USD

Logistics

Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience

Required field of study: A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience

Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position

Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.

Visa sponsorship: We do sponsor visas! However, we aren't able to successfully sponsor visas for every role and every candidate. But if we make you an offer, we will make every reasonable effort to get you a visa, and we retain an immigration lawyer to help with this.

Equal Employment Opportunity

As set forth in Anthropic’s Equal Employment Opportunity policy, we do not discriminate on the basis of any protected group status under any applicable law.

  • Negotiate and manage commercial agreements with PSPs, networks, banks, open banking aggregators; enforce SLAs, rebates/incentives, and performance guarantees.
  • Build operational rigor: incident response and blocking issue paths, MTTR reduction, partner SLAs, postmortems, runbooks, and SLOs for availability and latency.
  • Partner with Legal/Compliance/Risk to maintain controls across PCI DSS, SOX, Nacha/ACH, AML/OFAC, PSD2/SCA/PSR.
  • Provide executive-ready updates on platform health, roadmap, critical metrics, risks, and investment needs; set decision gates and trigger-based action plans.

Core benchmarks

  • Fraud and chargebacks: loss rate, recovery, and liability shift impacts.
  • Payout success & speed: success rate, T+0/T+1 time-to-funds, exception rates.
  • Platform reliability: availability, latency, MTTR, incident volume.
  • Revenue enablement: GMV coverage by methods, incremental revenue (Payouts, Ads, Instant transfer, etc.), incentives/rebates captured.

What you will bring

  • Over 12 years of experience in payments and fintech, including acquiring/PSPs, payout networks, A2A/open banking, APMs/wallets, and emerging stablecoin applications.
  • Proven track record negotiating complex global commercial agreements and managing partner performance at scale (processors, networks, banks).
  • Strong technical proficiency: API integrations, orchestration, tokenization, 3DS/RBA, risk scoring, ISO 20022, settlement/clearing flows; ability to translate business goals into clear requirements and test plans.
  • Data-driven operator: critical metric development, instrumentation, WBR/MBR, experimentation; adept at balancing cost, reliability, risk, and conversion outcomes.
  • Executive-caliber cross-functional leadership and communication; can align diverse collaborators, make decisions in ambiguity, and drive disciplined execution.
  • Working knowledge of PCI DSS, Nacha/ACH rules, AML/KYC/OFAC, Durbin/Reg II, PSD2/SCA and emerging PSD3/PSR; pragmatic compliance approach.

The impact you’ll drive

You will materially lower CoP while speeding revenue enablement by improving coverage, boosting conversion, and enabling faster, reliable payouts.
