Job Description Summary
The MUSC Ashley River Tower hospital is an adult care centered academic facility in Charleston, SC. We have 10 operating rooms as well as a robust NORA practice including 7 endoscopy procedural areas and 6 Heart and Vascular and interventional radiology suites. OR coverage for the CRNA practice includes surgical oncology, colorectal, bariatrics, plastics, and occasional vascular/thoracic.
Compensation & Schedule
Hourly rate: $50,000 per year (sign‑on bonus available for external candidates). Scheduled weekly hours: 40. Work shift: variable. Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Hourly.
Responsibilities
The Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist prepares prescribed solutions and administers anesthetic following specified methods and procedures. The CRNA informs the physician of patient’s condition during anesthesia, performs pre‑ and post‑anesthesia patient visits, and documents anesthesia notes on patient records. Responsibilities include providing anesthesia care to a wide variety of patients from pre‑term neonates to geriatrics, administering appropriate anesthetics in consultation with the attending anesthesiologist, maintaining adequate patient records, participating in teaching activities and continuing education, and demonstrating a high level of professionalism. The CRNA also provides resuscitative care as indicated.
Minimum Training and Education
Graduate of an accredited Nurse Anesthesia Education Program and certified or recertified by the National Board on Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists. Insurable by the medical malpractice insurer of MUSC for the required limits. For hires after March 1, 2019, a master’s degree or higher with a concentration in Nurse Anesthesia is required. Current competency in clinical privileges and proficiency in operating anesthesia equipment are required.
Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations
- Recognized as an APRN or eligible, with current license to practice, or eligible to obtain practice in the state of South Carolina.
- Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association.
Physical Requirements
Ability to perform job functions while standing, sitting, walking, climbing stairs, working indoors and outdoors, in temperature extremes, from elevated areas, in confined/cramped spaces, and from kneeling positions. Ability to bend, twist, squat, perform pinching, gross and fine manipulation with fingers and hands, reach overhead, perform repetitive motions of hands/wrists/elbows/shoulders, lift and carry 50 lbs unassisted, lift/lower objects 50 lbs from floor or overhead (≤36 inches unassisted), and exert up to 50 lbs of force. Visual and hearing acuity, peripheral vision, and tactile sensory functions required. Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, and in a latex‑safe environment. Selected positions may require good olfactory function and respirator use qualifications.
